From its Majestic mountains and famous Fjords Norway is simply one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Strategically located between the famous tourist destinations such as Lofoten and North Cape, you find Andenes.
There is no ice in the fjords and huge schools of Norwegian herring are hiding here during winter. The immense fish stock is the reason why the orcas, hump back whales and fin whales are coming here year after year to hunt. Norway has the biggest stock of orcas in the world, about 2000 individuals. The safari takes place in big rib boats and gives us a unique opportunity to experience the animals up close.
Andenes is situated 300 kilometres north of the Arctic circle. From here you will spend the next 3 days at sea snorkelling with the Killer Whales. This is one of the few places in the world to interact with these highly intelligent animals in there own environment.
The tour begins and ends at Tysfjord Turistsenter, and lasts up to ten hours. You will be issued with windproof survival suits, but must bring with you warm clothes, suitable footwear, headgear and gloves. When we encounter the orca, we will follow them and study their behaviour. In the stillness, all you can hear is the slap of the sea against the inflatable, and the dramatic sounds of the whales themselves as breath erupts from their blow-holes, or as they surge through the water. When you get this close to these magnificent creatures you are suddenly and completely a part of their world. On most of the trips we also saw Humpback and Finn whales feeding together with Killer whales.
After this once in a lifetime encounter we will prepare you for the next as we begin our Northern lights safari in Tysfjord. Aurora Borealis, the magic of colours dancing in the sky. Norway offers some of the best experience’s to see the light’s and their iridescent beauty.
Then is onto mount Stetind, this is Norway’s national mountain and no wonder. It’s a perfect obelisk with sweeping ridges rising straight from the sea. It towers some 1392 meters above Tysfjord and is really a landmark. From here we will explore the areas most beautiful sites on foot. Get ready to go hiking including some snow shoe hiking.
Then we will be back at sea. Spend the day deep sea fishing in these pristine waters. The fish will be cooked on an open fire to eat afterwards. Spend the last day on a wildlife/nature safari including a trip to the Tranoy lighthouse. Don’t be surprised to see Elk during the wildlife safari.
